How many posts are required to access chat feature?
I guess, getting 30 green dots is tougher than getting GC itself:D
Restricting chat access based on dots earned is probably the most idiotic thing IV has done. Folks who have contributed hundreds of dollars should be allowed access irrespective of posts or stupid dots.

I am sure they will ask for passport if you only have the I-94. Now if I am required to carry my passport all the time that becomes a real pain particularly if we are on H1/L1 and present for quite a long time.

i call the service center no and then ext 1,2,2,6,2,2,1
first i spoke to level 1 cs n then was directed to level2
the lady there was very nice and i asked her what to do as i filed I 485 on july 2 and didnt know wat to do going forward.......
so she asked for my last name first name and DOB and said that there was no entry in my name..........so basically she didnt know the whereabouts of my application.......
she advices me to wait for a week n check again as i was not in the system. she also told me that this does not mesan that i am rejected or anything like that.
so i will wait for a few days n call back on monday

The intent of the message is appropriate but the presentation isn't. I know core team is very frustrated with the lack to contribution and it's perfectly understandable but language like this will only turn more people off and that won't help anyone.
I agree with the post earlier that may be you should just delete your post for the good of the community and I am sure you know that.

I also want to file EAD and AP but the company attorney is saying it is safer to file the EAD and AP once the I-140 is approved.
For AP it doesn't matter approved I-140 or not. For EAD it's safer not to use it till I-140 approval. I would apply for it and hold just in case. Also your spouse can use EAD without I-140 approval, she/he can switch back to H4 if 140 is denied. I's critical for main applicant to maintain H1/L1 status.

a. Background check: They are currently doing my background check. How long does it take to complete this process? Even though I do not have any bad history still a little nervous. Is there anything I need to know about this?

I am assuming here that you referred Background Check done by future employer as a part of employment offer before granting you the final offer. In that case mostly your employer might have contracted that to third party. And if that would have been the case then it solely depends upon where you resides now and how many states you have moved so far from the date of first entry in uSA and what kind of new implementation all those states may have. Some states even gives "Red Flag" for traffic violation such as speeding. What happens is that, that third party would see only "red flag" and would not come to know about underlying cause of the "red flag". So as a process that third party first come to your future employer notifying about this " red flag". Then your employer decides to query that further having signature from you and would notify third party to dig further and then third party will go to state police to know the underlying cause and state police will work on that by taking fee and and some point of time it will say " hey he had traffic violation". So it may eat up 3 to 4 months to finish the whole cycle and ball is in your employer's court whether to hire you or wait to hire till then. Most companies hire without wasting time and afterwards if something really serious feedback comes in will boot you otherwise you will be fine.

He said that based on his discussions with the CIS, he was informed that the CIS did not feel that the current amount of pending Indian first preference demand would be insufficient to use all available numbers under the limit. Therefore, he allowed some of those numbers to fall down into Indian second preference.
So, the Indian second preference numbers used to establish a cutoff date for April are coming from left over Indian first preference, not worldwide numbers.

Your statement about 27% limit holding does not make sense ! As per the visa bulletin if numbers are not filled up in a particular category they will go to unsubscribed countries. Here is the excerpt from the April Visa bulletin:

Section 202(a)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides that if total demand will be insufficient to use all available numbers in a particular Employment preference category in a calendar quarter, then the unused numbers may be made available without regard to the annual �per-country� limit. It has been determined that based on the current level of demand being received, primarily by Citizenship and Immigration Services Offices, there would be otherwise unused numbers in the Employment Second preference category. Spill over does not need to happen every Q. It is purely based on demand and supply. If the visa office sees demand go south ( read really really south) and do not expect the demand to pick up for the rest of the year, yeah then the visa office will move the dated forward using spill over. if the demand is enough, meaning categories that are current are just using fine and CIS has enough backlogs VO does not move dates.
The most pre cautious option is (esp now that there are a shit load of pre adjudicated cases) is to leave the numbers for categories that are current until the final Q and then move the dates so that all current categories got a best shot at the visa number before it goes to the retrogressed. The visa office is pretty savvy and the numbers we saw from USCIS might be way off the real numbers the visa office sees and assigns a visa number for. Based on last 3 years, it seems that the DOS/VO knows the importance of visa numbers.

Foreign Workers". However the rally held in Washington DC is by Legal Skilled Immigrant Workers ( not mostly legal) to address the delay in securing a Permanent Residency through employment. Majority of the workers are waiting for atleast 6-8 years in the same job on temporary visas, not availing the job progression which their education, skills and experience would otherwise offer on the permanent visa.
Appreciate your effort in drawing the attention to one of major issues a vast
majority of the American business is now facing.

Contacting personally is the best. You may not always get a chance to meet the congressman. But atleast get an appointment with an aide who deals with immigration. Some of them would have offices in several towns. Choose the one close to you. Meet in person and explain the situation and give them the letter. Do not go in a big group. 1 or 2 members would be ideal. Lot of the congressman may not know much about the process. so you need to keep it simple with less technical terms.

Next time you are in airport security try telling them that you are Taliban and see their reaction.
some words have sentiments attached to them that go beyond on the literal meanings of the terms. Thats where people need to be a bit sensitive. People here have invited news firms to check out our forums (someone was recently trying to get folks from CNN over); seeing handles like Taliban does not exactly help our cause... common sense, yeah?
